Adventures of a Mathematician to Have its World Premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival

December 10, 2019 - Indie Sales is pleased to announce that German writer/director Thor Klein’s English language debut feature Adventures of a Mathematician will have its world premiere on January 5, 2020 in the prestigious World Cinema Now section at the 31st Palm Springs International Film Festival (Jan 2-13, 2020). Klein will be in attendance at the festival alongside stars of the film Philippe Tlokinski and Fabian Kociecki, producers Lena Vurma, Joanna Szymanska and Paul Zischler, as well as the daughter of Stan Ulam, Claire Weiner Ulam and additional key crew members. 

Based on the autobiography by the same name, Adventures of a Mathematician tells the thought-provoking account of Stan Ulam, a Jewish Polish mathematician who fled to the US in the 1930s to help build first nuclear bombs and save his family in Europe. It’s an emotional journey to the time when science lost its innocence and shaped the world we live in today. 

The film’s stellar international cast features Polish actors Philippe Tlokinski(Kurier) as Stan Ulam,  Fabian Kociecki (Sobibor) as John von Neumann, and Mateusz Wieclawek (Stones for the Rampart) as Adam Ulam; French actress Esther Garrel (Call me by your Name) as Francoise Ulam; Swiss actor Joel Basman(Academy-award nominated Land of Mine) as Edward Teller; Irish actor Sam Keeley (Burnt) as Jack Calkin, German/Romanian actor Sabin Tambrea (Babylon Berlin)as Klaus Fuchs; and British actor Ryan Gage (The Hobbit) as Robert J. Oppenheimer. 

The film’s music is by Polish composer Antoni Komasa-Lazarkiewicz (Academy Award nominated In Darkness,Mr. Jones), with cinematography by Romanian "wunderkind" Tudor Vladimir (Cannes award-winner Graduation)andediting by Matthieu Taponier (Academy Award winner Son of Saul, Sunset) of France. 

Adventures of a Mathematicianis a German, British, Polish co-production with support from Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, The Polish Film Institute, German-Polish Film Fund, EC1 Lodz - The City of Culture, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Tribeca Film Institute, Film Independent in association with TVP, ZDF/ARTE.

Paris-based Indie Sales handles worldwide rights including North America and excluding Germany and Poland. 

Adventures of a Mathematicianwill have its market premiere at the upcoming European Film Market during Berlinale.
