PASSION, PERSEVERANCE, AND THE WORLD CUP: 'THEY CALL US WARRIORS' COMES TO ITUNES ON APRIL 21

Following the incredible true story of Venezuela’s U-17 Women’s soccer team, They Call Us Warriors (Nos Llaman Guerreras) documents their unlikely journey, led by soccer sensation Denya Castellanos (Atletico Madrid, Florida State University), the youngest-ever Best FIFA Women's Player Award nominee, from political and economic upheaval to the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Featuring exclusive training and game footage and emotional interviews with the players, family members, and coach Kenneth Zseremeta, the film is directed by David Alonso, Edwin Corona Ramos, Jennifer Socorro, and distributed by Game Theory FilmsThey Call Us Warriors will be released on iTunes Canada on Tuesday, April 21.

After becoming undefeated champions of the South American Women Under-17 Championship, the Venezuelan team sets out to win the first World Cup for their country. Overcoming gender discrimination, personal sacrifices, and devastating injuries, the team - including star players Castellanos, Verónica Herrera, Sandra Luzardo, Daniuska Rodríguez, Yerliane Moreno - defies expectations and inspires generations of young women in their home country and around the world.

They Call Us Warriors took home the Special Jury Award at the Atlanta Film Festival (U.S.), Best Doc Feature at the Indie Street Film Festival (U.S.), and winner of Best Documentary at the Filmfestival Kitzbühel (Austria).

"We're thrilled to bring this film to new Canadian audiences this spring through iTunes. At its core, this is a story about overcoming adversity and the love of sports acting as a beacon of hope through uncertain times. With all that's happening in the world, including the cancellation and postponement of major sporting events, the message of hope and unity is all the more relevant,” said Hilary Hart, Director of Distribution and AcquisitionsGame Theory Films

"This is a movie about achieving your dreams in difficult circumstances. Right now, the world is living through one of the most difficult times in history," said Jennifer Socorro & Edwin Corona RamosDirectorsThey Call Us Warriors. "We want viewers to watch the film and come away with empathy and a new understanding of how under any circumstances, one can achieve their dreams. Every little girl at home right now who has dreams should be encouraged to believe that even when you have a pandemic at the front door, there is always a path, and when you really want it, you can make those dreams real."
