Latest film from Andrea Dorfman Coming to iTunes Canada and Vimeo on Demand on August 7

Toronto, ON – July 20, 2020 - Actress and comedian Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn 99, Big Mouth) makes her feature film leading debut in the hilarious anti-rom-com Spinster. Directed by Andrea Dorfman (Heartbeat, How To Be Alone), Spinster is distributed by Game Theory Films in Canada and will be released on iTunes Canada and Vimeo on Demand on August 7 as well as in the US and UK through Vertical Entertainment.

Anchored by Peretti's signature humour, the film follows Gaby, a small-time wedding caterer, who is unceremoniously dumped on her 39th birthday. Petrified she’ll be alone forever, she embarks on a dating spree only to discover that her problem isn’t that she doesn’t have a love life – it’s that she doesn’t have a life. Gaby's dating quest soon becomes a journey of self-discovery - and as her 40th birthday rolls around, she finds that her dreams of finding the perfect partner have given way to new dreams of empowerment and independence.

Shot on location in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Spinster’s all-star cast also includes Susan Kent (This Hour Has 22 MInutes, Trailer Park Boys), David Rossetti (Diggstown, Trailer Park Boys), Bill Carr (The Mist) and Nadia Tohen (Mr. D).

“The film’s writer, Jennifer Deyell, and I wanted to turn the romantic comedy on its ear and make it less about chasing someone else and more about falling in love with yourself,” said Andrea Dorfman, Director, Spinster. "The concept that women can’t be happy and alone at any age, but specifically in their 30s and 40s, is simply untrue. There’s beauty, and a lot of comedy, in forging your own path and I hope that the film resonates with anyone in a similar situation.”

Spinster made its world premiere at the Whistler Film Festival in 2019, where Chelsea Peretti received the Trailblazer Award, presented to an actor, writer or director who has blazed a unique and inspiring trail for themselves in film and who continues to engage audiences with meaningful, impactful work
