MADE CELEBRATES ISLAMIC HISTORY MONTH WITH TRANSPLANT STAR HAMZA HAQ

TORONTO, ON (October 1, 2020) – MADE | NOUS has partnered with Canadian actor Hamza Haq, star of CTV’s hit drama Transplant to celebrate Islamic History Month. Throughout the month of October, fans can follow along with Haq on Instagram @hmzlhq as he spotlights notable creators and the works that represent the rich talent from the Muslim community in Canada.

“As an immigrant and a Muslim, I recognize what my own visibility means and I understand the responsibility that comes with that,” said Haq. “On screen representation has always been important and I’m happy to see the industry finally recognizing it to this degree, but we still have a long way to go. I look forward to highlighting some of the influential people who have come before me and those who are in the struggle with me right now.”

Born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents, Haq immigrated to Ottawa when he was nine years old. He began his acting career with roles in the thriller series Quantico, Darren Aronofsky’s mother!, Xavier Dolan’s The Life and Death of John F. Donovan and the Canadian series This Life for which he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance in a Guest Role in a Drama Series. In 2019, Haq landed his breakout role as the lead in CTV’s Transplant, playing Dr. Bashir “Bash” Hamed, a Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine who makes the difficult decision to flee his country with his younger sister. Season 1 of Transplant is currently encoring on CTV Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and is also airing in the U.S. on NBC. Haq can next be seen starring alongside Sigourney Weaver, Margaret Qualley, Colm Feore and Théodore Pellerin in the upcoming Philippe Falardeau feature film, My Salinger Year.

MADE continues to promote Canadian creators in film, television, video games and digital entertainment with year-round campaigns and has worked with ambassadors Stephan James, Shamier Anderson, Amanda Brugel, Karine Vanasse, David Usher, Jay Baruchel, Simu Liu, Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, among others.
